Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rush?

Rush is a two week period where we, the brothers of Pi Alpha Phi, host various events for those interested in joining the fraternity. Come out, have fun, and get to know the brothers of Pi Alpha Phi! This is a perfect opportunity to meet the brothers, socialize with other organizations, ask questions, and learn more about what we stand for. This is also a chance for us to learn a little more about you. Contact any of the brothers or rush chairs if there are any questions or concerns that you may have.

Do I have to go to every single Rush event?
Rush is NON-OBLIGATORY, which means you are not required to go to every single event! Just come out to which ones sound interesting, but we still encourage you to come out to all of the events! (However, keep in mind you do require 1 info session and 2 social events to qualify for an interview). There is no obligation to join after attending rush. All events are FREE, and rides will be provided if needed.

Once Rush is over, an interview will be extended to you if you attended 1 info session and 2 social events. We ask that you bring a copy of your class schedule and resume to the interview. After the interview, the chapter will then decide on whether or not to give you a formal invitation to join (known as a bid). Upon receiving a bid, you then have the option to accept or decline the bid.

Why Join?

Pi Alpha Phi is where leaders are created and Asian awareness is exhibited. Our future needs outstanding individuals and role models. Academic excellence and philanthropy allow us to utilize the knowledge we learn in the classroom to give back to our communities and show that we can make an impact. Most importantly, Brotherhood is forged; for one does not simply extend life-long friendships without tradition, shared values, and unity. Networking, social events, and organizational assets; Pi Alpha Phi opens new windows of opportunity for young potential individuals to not only explore but to genuinely experience the excitement of college.

In addition to joining a respected organization, you will also join a larger Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which houses several other multicultural based Greek organizations here at Clemson University. Together, MGC promotes a sense of networking with individuals from other Greek organizations; unity through collaboration, and a sense of family; diversity through advocating cultural awareness across a wide range of heritage; and professional development for those who strive for academic excellence.

Do I have to be Asian to Join?

Of course not! Pi Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. is an Asian-interest fraternity, not an Asian-exclusive fraternity. We were established as a result of discrimination, and a means of eliminating it. We do not discriminate on the basis of religion, background, national origin, age, financial status, or sexual orientation. With multiethnic chapters all across the nation, Pi Alpha Phi prides itself on its very diverse background. As an organization that seeks to promote cultural awareness, we hold the concept of equality in the highest regard and encourage men of all backgrounds to join!
